Uncommon Volunteers

Each year, the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce honors members who have made uncommonly generous contributions to the achievement of our objectives through their tireless work as volunteers. We call these dedicated people Uncommon Volunteers.

Congratulations and thank you to our 2007 Uncommon Volunteers, who were recognized at our 2008 Annual Meeting:

Barbara Hawkins- Florence Savings Bank

Barbara has served the co-chair of the Chamber’s Ambassador Committee for the last 5 years and has also served on the Membership Committee.  In addition to the calls she makes to new members on behalf of the Ambassadors, Barbara also acts as a team Captain for the Chamber’s annual membership drive and helps the Generators out with Auction calls. Barbara got involved with the Chamber about 15 years ago when she moved to Northampton from the Springfield area. She said that was an exciting time to get involved because the Chamber had just hired Suzanne as the new Director and was undergoing lots of changes and it was exciting to be a part of the Chamber while it was undergoing such an evolution.

Rob Ostberg- Ostberg & Associates Financial Services and Insurance

Rob served 6 years on the Chamber’s board of directors, one of those he served as President of the Board.  Rob has also acted as Treasurer, chair of the Membership Committee and on several now dissolved committees.  Rob is also a Chamber Partner.  Robs says it is a privilege to work for an organization that has such an extraordinary impact for the community.  He also feels very lucky to have worked with the caliber of experience and expertise that the volunteers bring to the table.

Charles Bowles- Bowles Enterprises

Charles has served as the chair of the Chamber’s Tourism Committee for 12 years as well as the Chair of the Fairgrounds Redevelopment Committee.  He also was the chair of the Chamber Building Committee the renovated 99 Pleasant Street and raised the money to do it.  Charles as also served on the Board for 6 years and has just been reappointed to a one-year term to the Board for 2008. Finally, he is also our go-to handyman for the Chamber- from unclogging toilets to supervising excavation of underground pipes; when something unexpected happens, Chuck is always the first phone call the staff makes.

Dan Kunhardt- Kunhardt Financial and Insurance Strategies

Dan has been a volunteer on the Chamber’s Generators committee for several years.  Each year he acts as a Captain for the Chamber’s Annual Membership Drive.  He has also served as the co-chair of the Chamber’s Annual Auction twice and has been a top solicitor for silent auction donations each year.  In 2002, Dan served as the interim chair of the Chamber’s Ambassador Committee for about 6 months when the Chamber needed some additional leadership there. Dan says that his involvement with the Chamber has not only been good for his own business but he feels pleased to be able to support all businesses in the area through his efforts as a Chamber volunteer.
